We Catch Up With Finnish indie artist SÄTILÄ for the release of 'ISLAND' | We talk Inspiration & Development

Sätilä is a Finnish artist, songwriter and producer combining indie/alternative music with pop sensibilities. We catch up with him following the release of a synth and electronic music leaning EP last September, Sätilä is shifting gears and embracing the music of his youth. You can hear his influences of The Killers, Mew and Disco Ensemble in this energetic and anthemic belter. Lyrically inspired by climate change and feeling inept in fighting it, it's about the realisation of how we're all connected and in it together. The song started as a band jam after seeing Danish alt-rock band Mew live at Tavastia Club in Helsinki in November 2014 but the demo was left on his hard drive for years.

DEAD MENACE | Release Good Year | We Chat About DIY Music Videos & Positive Outlook For The Year Ahead

The optimistically titled Good Year, released January 22nd, is a self-described pop-croon slush fest, spitting in the eye of the ‘major downer’ that was 2020. Reminiscent of early-Joji, Chvrches and Post Malone. The song is an upbeat take on what really matters and what 2021 might hold, with sincere vocals and a pretty-thumping beat to get you right in the feels. Good Year received its debut airplay on Kerrang’s Fresh Blood show on January 13th.

The video was shot at Barossa nature reserve on the anniversary of the brothers becoming a “real” band, they played their first show at the Windmill Brixton on November 19th 2019. The boys came into 2020 looking forward to building on that.

On furlough and bubbled-up, they used the me-time productively putting out 5 singles and making some fun music videos, they continue to build steady support from local radio and BBC Introducing.

JON REYNOLDS & THE ACHES Drops Single LEATHER JACKET | We Talk Music, Label Contracts & New Years Resolutions

Could you tell us a bit about yourself and your journey with music to date?

My journey really started because my father was a performing musician who paid his way through college gigging, so I was raised in a home where music was a constant. I started writing my own music when I was 16 or so but didn’t really take it seriously as a career until I was about 19. I formed a blues-rock three-piece called The Waymires that I recorded and performed with for a few years. Looking back, that was a really formative time in my career. I learned how to play with a live group, how to read other players, and really got my hands dirty while doing it. I moved to Nashville when I was 24 and started working on my own music at that time. That’s when I really started to flex my writing skills and let it guide my career decisions. I came out with an EP called Generation Love that was all based on 50’s pop and themed around topics of racism and sexism. It was definitely inspired by my move to the South. I had a bit of culture shock with how open people were with their prejudices. Nashville is a very liberal place, but it is centred in the middle of a very conservative state.

Unrestricted by sonic or geographic boundaries, Ghita’s vision has created a style of futuristic pop with an appeal that stretches across the continents. Tastemakers on both sides of the Atlantic have heralded her huge potential, with plaudits including Clash, PAPER and Wonderland. She’s being discovered by a growing fanbase, earning 3 million streams on Spotify plus 1.2 million views at YouTube in just a few early releases.

Following the success of Real Lies remix featuring CKay, Ghita now shares the new single ‘No Stopping’ as she gears up for the release of her debut EP ‘LOST ANGELES’ on December 10th. She co-wrote the track with the Grammy-nominated Kimberly ‘Kaydence’ Krysiuk (Ariana Grande’s ‘7 Rings’) and Casolina, with production from 9AM (Ty Dolla $ign, Jason Derulo).

While Ghita is still very much a rising talent, ‘No Stopping’ possesses the maturity of a seasoned artist. Its meditative aura blends modern production flourishes within a spacious slow-burning ballad. Meanwhile, Ghita’s beautiful tone balances the purity of the song’s sentiment with the astute taste not to overplay its drama. It’s an utterly confident performance, but one that was inspired by a fleeting moment of self-doubt.

HV MUSIC Drop New Single GUCCI PLANS | We Talk Diversity & Perth Music Scene

Perth-based Hip Hop group HV Music brings this proverbial rule to action with their forthcoming 13-track EP, ‘TRAPSUPPER

Shortly after the ensemble was formed in 2018, consisting of childhood friends and homegrown versatile rappers Mornz, Luwii, and Rzy—alongside The Don, Jnr, and Keem—the group envisioned to put together this project. However, they decided to put its release on hold, and wait ‘till they could execute it to the standard they all believe in.

Their single, ‘Gucci, which was released earlier this month, sets the tone of the EP. This audio collage of Hip Hop, Trap, Alternative R&B, and Rap is a fusion of genres and sounds. The variety of the tracks are stitched together by a sonic vision that merges hyped productions and classic noises that don't drown out each rapper’s ability to eloquently but speedily mumble their musings and emotions. For this project, the rappers wrote down their own lyrics, interjecting their own individual styles.

Inspired and influenced by the career trajectories and styles of Gunna, Lil Baby, Drake, and Lil Durk, among others, HV Music has now more than 50,000 streams collectively, over 10 shows. This promising team has eyes on releasing music videos, and doing collaborations and shows for the rest of the year.

CARLY SHEA Drops Single 'PERSONAL POP STAR' | We Talk NYC & Travel

Carly Shea is an NYC-based musician creating songs that fluctuate between house-inspired pop and alternative soul. Her songs are a reflection of the ups and downs of living— from enjoying careless nights out to contemplate the bigger picture. What began as a songwriting hobby in Brooklyn basements became a more serious pursuit when Carly met an A&R from SONY during the 2018 Grammys and received sync offers soon after. From there, she travelled between Mexico City, Los Angeles, and NYC to craft a catalogue of unique pop music and accompanying music videos. After a period of wondering if music would conflict with her role as a talent agent, Carly finally put her music first and released her debut single “Lemonade” in January 2020 with critical acclaim.

Her newest release, “Personal Popstar” continues the rising artist’s musical progression, integrating Hyperpop/PC Music elements into her established pop sound. The accompanying music video for “Personal Popstar” is a series of snapshots from a night spent at a nearly abandoned 1980s honeymoon resort. Publications such as Wonderland Magazine and Obscure Sound have lauded her tracks for “creating new universes” with its “powerful hooks and crystal clear vocals” and “bright pop infectiousness.”

From NHS Cleaners To Pop Stars | NOISY Drop Single ' I WISH I WAS A...' | We Talk Music, TIK TOK & Getting Stuck In A Lift

Fresh from releasing their new EP ‘I Wish I Was A’ (October 16th), surefire ones-to-watch NOISY is proving unstoppable as they share their new high-octane live EP session, straight from a petrol station. This gritty yet refined performance sees the band rattle through fan favourites, such as ‘Put A Record on’, ‘Oi’, ‘Where’s Your Head’ and the title track of their new EP, ‘I Wish I Was A’. Making music with no boundaries, Worthing-based NOISY comprises vocalist Cody, guitarist Connor and producer Spencer, a three-piece hybrid of hooks, beats and escapism.

Before signing with Island Records, the band worked alongside each other at their local NHS hospital as cleaners. This did not hinder their uncompromising drive to pursue music, quite the opposite, in fact. Their routine was to record demos during the day, and fine-tune the recordings at night, together, whilst they cleaned the hospital. It was this routine that saw their EP come to fruition.

The trio have a busy 2021 ahead of them, supporting the likes of YUNGBLUD, You Me at Six and Bad Sounds across their UK tours.
