HV MUSIC Drop New Single GUCCI PLANS | We Talk Diversity & Perth Music Scene

Perth-based Hip Hop group HV Music brings this proverbial rule to action with their forthcoming 13-track EP, ‘TRAPSUPPER

Shortly after the ensemble was formed in 2018, consisting of childhood friends and homegrown versatile rappers Mornz, Luwii, and Rzy—alongside The Don, Jnr, and Keem—the group envisioned to put together this project. However, they decided to put its release on hold, and wait ‘till they could execute it to the standard they all believe in.

Their single, ‘Gucci, which was released earlier this month, sets the tone of the EP. This audio collage of Hip Hop, Trap, Alternative R&B, and Rap is a fusion of genres and sounds. The variety of the tracks are stitched together by a sonic vision that merges hyped productions and classic noises that don't drown out each rapper’s ability to eloquently but speedily mumble their musings and emotions. For this project, the rappers wrote down their own lyrics, interjecting their own individual styles.

Inspired and influenced by the career trajectories and styles of Gunna, Lil Baby, Drake, and Lil Durk, among others, HV Music has now more than 50,000 streams collectively, over 10 shows. This promising team has eyes on releasing music videos, and doing collaborations and shows for the rest of the year.

Tell us a bit about how the group came about and how you all met.

(Luwii) - Well we basically met each other through high school where we became basically brothers, I started officially making music before the rest of the boys and would invite them over for some studio sessions. Ended up finding that they could rap too so then we decided to form the group and the rest was history and we still making history

(Rzy) I knew all of the members from when we were younger, before the group was even created. Used to chill all the time and was invited to make music one time. Really loved music, so I kept on linking up with the dawgs, making music more. Never stopped since then!

(Mornz) Known the brodies for more than a decade now and we bonded and formed friendships well before the music. We used to have high school and soccer to always keep us together but after graduating our love for music is what brought us all together again. From then we just decided on a dream and have been pushing for it since.

What does your group name mean/come from?

(Luwii) - HV stands for Highly Invested, but didn’t wanna abbreviate its has HI, so we just went with HV because it just has a better ring to it and now it’s a household name. The name is self explanatory, you gotta invest in your dreams for them to become a reality.

Can each of you tell us a little bit about yourself?

(Luwii) - super chilled but extremely motivated, have that perfectionist mentality, always strive to be the best at whatever I do and also give 100% towards everything I’m passionate for.

(Rzy) - I love to have fun and be lit, always trying to be bringing good vibes to everything I do. But with that being said, when it’s time to buckle down and do what I’m meant to do; I put my all into it and make sure I’ve done the best I can! This is especially true for something I’m passionate about, such as making music!

Mornz - Extremely focused individual who pays attention to slight details that others won’t, but calm and lit vibe when the time is right. Stick strong to my morals and principles and always keep it real to the ones close.

Can you describe your sound and tell us what it’s like to work with such a big group?

We are a very versatile group and that’s something I don’t see very often, we try to bring vibes in our sound so when people are listening to our music they are bumping their heads. Working in a big group is like working with family like the saying goes “if you wanna get somewhere fast go alone but if you wanna go further go with your family”.

Who in the charts right now would you like to collaborate with if you could?

At the moment,  Young thug, Travis Scott, Future or Drake. All huge legends in their in own lanes.

What was the first gig each of you went to and what was your experience of it?

(Rzy) - The first gig we went to as a group was this show at an independent event F.R.O.G at a recreation centre. It was for a fundraiser and it had a pretty big crowd for our first performance. The youngin’s were so lit, it really made me love doing shows. Amazing experience!

Are there any stories that you can tell us about your experience in the industry?

Mornz - As I can only speak on WA, as that's where we from, I’d say there’s a lot of talent here in this city which is slept on among other states in the country. Our distance makes it difficult to tap into what’s going on there and vise-versa for them. I feel like the city needs to get behind their own artists, even if it's not us, as it will build a music culture which can rival the other states and bring Australian music forward. That being said, the city is in the right direction and I’m confident we ain't gotta wait too long till the rise begins.

What do you enjoy most about being a musician?

(Luwii) - the ability to express myself and therefore influence the fans in a positive way.

(Rzy) - Love how I can explore my creativity and express what I’m thinking/feeling. Also love how much layers there is to making music, allowing me to continue growing and creating.

Mornz - It’s my space where I can fully express myself and let emotions out, good or bad, that I’ve been dealing with, and to put into songs and give to people to hear and relate to in their lives to help them, it’s a win.

Which is the song you would recommend the song that you would recommend to first-time listeners and why?

Culture, it's the first track of our new project ‘TRAPSUPPER’ which has all 3 of us and sets the vibe for the rest of the tape.

How and when did each of you get introduced to music?

(Luwii) - Ever since I was born, music runs through my family and it’s also just our way of life and our culture.

(Rzy) - Music has been in my life since I was born, my parents would play it and listen to it all the time. Have had a huge love for it since I was young, huge part of my life!

Mornz - Coming from Ghanaian roots, music has always been around me since a very very early age.

What is one thing you would like to change about the music industry and why?

(Rzy) -Honestly, just helping everyone be more open to diversity. Start showing more love to creators creating sounds that aren’t familiar to what most listeners would listen to. Too much talent, potential and amazing creations that need more light shining on them. Also trying to keep things as fair as possible, even playing field for all creators.

If it wasn’t for your music career what do you all think that you would all be doing right now?

(Luwii) - Still trying to find a way to create generational wealth for my family

(Rzy) - Something I’m passionate about, always gotta do what I love to do! Also, something that helps me stack up the cheddar!

Mornz - Music my Plan A, B, C

Where do you get your inspiration from?

We listen to all types of sounds and music, taking inspiration from things that sound the best to my ear.

What’s next for you in 2021?

(Rzy) - Been working on elevating my craft, so I’m definitely gonna continue doing that throughout the whole year and beyond! Other than that, I’m planning to drop and make a lot more music next year, so stay tuned!

Mornz - A lot of new changes and elevation in the sound and outlay of myself and HV as a collective, every year about improving from the last and if you already on the wave, just know its coming diff next year.
