WHEN AND HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY?

I got into makeup about 5 years ago. Originally, I wanted to work on films, so I studied special effects makeup. Somehow, I ended up doing a lot of beauty jobs and photoshoots instead, so it was never exactly something I planned for, but rather a happy coincidence.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SIGNATURE LOOK?

Asymmetrical and fun, and maybe even organic in its own way. I always love using bright colours as well as different textures, and I would always rather end up with something that looks interesting, over something that’s just pretty.

WHICH ELEMENT OF YOUR JOB DO YOU MOST ENJOY?

Creativity, obviously, plays a huge role for me, but I also just really enjoy working with my clients. It's amazing to see their reaction when I've finished doing their makeup- making someone smile and feel good about themselves must be my favourite part.

WHAT IS BEAUTY FOR YOU?

I think beauty is whatever makes you the most comfortable and at ease with yourself, whether you’re wearing a full face of makeup or barely anything at all. I am very minimalistic with my daily makeup routine.

WHAT ARE YOUR 3 BEAUTY DO’S AND DONT'S?

Do's:

- Always remember to clean your makeup brushes regularly.

- A skincare routine that suits you. A healthy base really goes a long way!

- Honestly, whatever makes you feel happy with your look. If you want to wear neon lipstick or colourful mascara, let nobody stop you.

Dont's:

- Not getting your foundation shade matched properly.

- Forgetting primer under eyeshadow.

- Sleeping in your makeup. Seriously, just don’t do it!

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TODAY?

That would probably be minimalism as well as abstract art. Both are some of my favourite things to incorporate into my own work.

BEAUTY INSTAGRAM PROFILES HAVE BECOME A MAJOR INFLUENCE TO THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY, HOW IMPORTANT ARE SOCIAL PLATFORMS FOR YOU?

For me, it just kind of started out like something I thought I would try on a whim, but it's become much more important. Social media lets you connect with others globally, including other artists and businesses, and that creates a sense of community. Instagram especially has really brought some wonderful people and lots of inspiration into my life.

DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS OR ADVICE FOR ASPIRING MAKE-UP ARTISTS?

Always keep an organised kit! There is nothing worse than being on set, or on any job, and not being able to find just the thing you're looking for. Try to organise well at home too, it's going to save you lots of space when your makeup collection (inevitably) keeps growing.

What do you love most about makeup?

The thing I love most about makeup is that it’s so temporary. You can really do something different with it every day, whether you want to do something very creative, dramatic, or just keep it simple. Then, at the end of the day, you simply remove it and you’re ready to create something new.
