Is Baby Yoda (Grogu) More Powerful than Yoda? THE MANDALORIAN on Disney +

When Disney+ launched The Mandalorian, a lot of people (yours truly included) were unsure as to what another Disney-based spin-off would look like. Disney’s Sequel Trilogy was (and still is) highly controversial, while the two anthology movies – Rogue One and Solo – were met with critical acclaim and relatively favourable reviews, respectively. But, after the first episode, it became obvious that The Mandalorian was going to be a big hit for Disney, and the show, despite being completely original, showed that Disney was capable of producing a Star Wars work that Is as good as Lucas’ Original Trilogy.

The Mandalorian has introduced us to a lot of new and interesting characters. The titular Mandalorian, Din Djarin, was met with critical acclaim, as well as some other additions to the Star Wars lore. But, until well into the show’s second season, one of the show’s most popular additions was also its most enigmatic one – The Child, better known by his informal name, Baby Yoda. Baby Yoda was an instant hit – he was small, he was adorable and his relationship with Din Djarin was beautifully written. Yet, he was introduced as an important asset for the remnants of the Empire, as the Client wanted him for their mysterious experiments, conducted by Dr. Pershing.

What do we know about Baby Yoda?

Initially, the viewers knew very little of the show’s main attraction. He was a 50-year-old infant, he was important to the Empire and he belonged to the same unknown race as Jedi Grandmaster Yoda, the most powerful Jedi in the whole franchise. Everything else was a mystery for quite some time, but by the end of Season 1 and especially during Season 2, the viewers began receiving more and more information about the child.

During Season 1, we saw that Baby Yoda was Force-sensitive, but we immediately saw that he had very little control over his powers and that they usually took a lot of energy out of him. After using them, he would usually fall asleep. Still, seeing what he could do, we knew from the start that he was very powerful, which wasn’t surprising because he was of the same race as Yoda.

Later, we found out – when Din Djarin brought him to legendary former Jedi, Ahsoka Tano – that his name was Grogu and that he is a survivor of Order 66. He was a youngling that somehow managed to survive the slaughter committed by Darth Vader and later escape. He had to suppress all of his knowledge and his powers in order to survive while being hunted down by the remnants of the Empire and, especially, Moff Gideon.

At the end of Season 2, we see Grogu leave with Jedi Master Luke Skywalker to train; he had managed to summon Luke earlier by using the Force. And this is a highly important fact we know about Grogu at this moment, although more information is certainly to come as the show develops further and expands its narrative.

How powerful is Grogu?

Well, the full extent of Grogu’s powers is unknown at this moment. We know he has an incredibly high midi-chlorian count and he has already shown to be able to do amazing things for his age (in the context of his race) and size. He was able to use the Force to lift a giant mudhorn, but also to produce a Force barrier that was powerful enough to both block and redirects a Stormtrooper’s flamethrower. When angry, he demonstrated the ability to use the so-called Force-choke on Cara Dune, although it was used for defensive purposes. Likewise, he was able to throw two Stormtroopers around the room with relative ease. A demonstration of his skills happened also when he used the Force to heal serious injuries and neutralize poisoning, which are very advanced skills that only powerful Force users are able to accomplish.

We know that Grogu is powerful, but the full extent of his powers has yet to be revealed.

Is Baby Yoda more powerful than Yoda?

A simple answer to this question exists at the moment, but we have absolutely no clue as to what the future holds for young Grogu. Namely, at this point, he is not more powerful than Master Yoda; he is not even near his level, despite there being a potential for that. Namely, Master Yoda was a naturally powerful Force user, but a lot of his powers and skills stem from centuries of long and hard training, as well as deep insights into the very nature of the Force. Yoda taught himself to be as good as he was, which wasn’t hard since he was – until the appearance of Anakin Skywalker – the Force user with the highest-recorded count of midi-chlorians.

Grogu’s own midi-chlorian count was not revealed, but it was heavily implied that it was very high, certainly around Yoda’s and Anakin’s count, if not higher.

This would certainly imply that Grogu could become more powerful than Yoda. The things he had demonstrated so far, although they’re mere child’s play when compared to Yoda’s powers during his adulthood, show that he has enormous potential within him and that he is able to accomplish feats that are far beyond the expected skill level of a child, which Grogu is. Was Yoda the same at that age? We don’t know, as much about Yoda’s past is still a mystery, which is why we cannot fully compare them in terms of powers.

We believe that Grogu certainly has the potential to – at least – be as powerful as Master Yoda, but as of yet – the Jedi Grandmaster remains on spot number one.

And with this, we conclude today’s article. We hope you had as much fun reading this, as we had writing it. We have given you all the necessary information about Grogu and his powers and have compared them briefly to Yoda’s so that you can also draw some conclusions yourselves. We hope you’ll keep following us for more of the same; until next time!
